World Kidney Day

World Kidney Day is celebrated globally on the 2nd Thursday in March. It is a joint initiative of the International Federation of Kidney Foundations (IFKF) and the International Society of Nephrology (ISN). Many individuals and organizations around the world celebrate this day to raise awareness of the importance of our kidneys to our overall health and to reduce the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems worldwide.
Every year the World Kidney Day comes up with a unique theme to spread the awareness. This year’s campaign emphasizes the theme of "Kidney Health for Everyone Everywhere-from Prevention to Detection and Equitable Access to Care".
Objectives: We tried to list out the objectives collectively reported from the experts of Nephrology.
- Awareness Programs on our “Incredible Kidneys”, highlighting key risk factors such as diabetes and high blood pressure responsible for Chronic Kidney Disease.
- Facilitate regular screenings of all patients with diabetes and Chronic Kidney Disease hypertension.
- Encouraging precautionary measures and recognizing the essential role of local and national health agencies in the prevention of the CKD epidemic.
- Educating the act of organ donation as a life-saving initiative.
- Empowering all medical professionals about their key role in detecting and reducing the risk of CKD in high risk populations.
All across the globe many hundred events take place from public screenings in Argentina to Zumba marathons in Malaysia. Every year concerned supporters promote World Kidney Day and spread the WKD message to their local audiences and adapt it to the culture and language
